HUSTLE EATS: SWEET DINER (MKE, WI)
If you haven’t been hip to this reality to this point; I apologize for that and while we are indeed still living in a Pandemic, that is still no reason to have been living under a rock. I’ll say this proudly and will boldly support the claim that Milwaukee is one of the premier cities for top-tier food options.
With that being said, I wanted to to begin to share some of my “foodie” experiences with you all on the HUSTLERESPONSIBLY platform via a new and hopefully recurring “HUSTLE EATS” segment on the blog.
Starting with a local unanimous fan favorite that is located in the heart of Milwaukee’s beloved Third Ward neighborhood, SWEET DINER (@sweetdinermke) | 239 E. Chicago Street. Sweet Diner is a swanky spot that specializes in breakfast / brunch that is the perfect blend of chic and minimalist fun. The stylish spot can easily turn into a ‘who’s who’ of MKE’s movers and shakers as there’s a never a dull or quiet moment. The place always seems to be jammed packed, but even with what appears to be a line outside the wait never feels too long…and both the food and experience is well worth it.
This really ain’t got nothing to do with the establishment but I had to show the kicks to some damn body. Maroon Air Max 1 Patta Waves Rush. Also…shout out to my partner in dine. Brunch is always better in two’s cuz ya’ll can sample each others dishes. So lets dive into the goods…
— CARAMEL APPLE —
Traditional buttermilk pancakes topped with powdered sugar and fresh apples sauteed with brown sugar and butter
Me personally I normally don’t rock with all the sweets in my breakfast foods, maybe an occasional berry or two but definitely not in this way. BUT…I’d gladly make an exception for this here. In a guilty way it was like eating a fresh apple pie baked to perfection. Beautiful presentation. No need to even add syrup, the caramel and brown sugar blend is everything you need without being overpowering but also just enough to keep your pancakes from drying out. In addition to the apple pie panny cakes; we added a side of breakfast potatoes and that divine swine… BACON!
Yup…Highly recommend. But it is a sweet dish so approach at your own risk.
— MEAN GREEN —
kale, spinach, romaine, green apple, cucumber, lime, and pineapple
— CHALLAH —
Traditional French toast with Challah bread, sprinkled with powdered sugar, served with warm Maple syrup, house-made whipped cream and whipped butter
So I know ‘Chicken & Waffles’ have become a rather popular breakfast / brunch combination. A little fun fact about me is I’ll go with my own personal rendition of that combination pretty much at every establishment where its offered… ‘CHICKEN & FRENCH TOAST’. So voila..the Challah french toast is paired with their Memphis style chicken tenders made to order specifically for the boy. Savored every bite. Extremely satisfying dish. I also had the Jasmine Tea since its winter and I needed something to warm the insides a bit.
If you are not a MKE native or frequent the city often; be sure to include SWEET DINER into your itinerary when you are mapping out your visit. Milwaukeeans; continue to keep this gem alive and thriving with your good patronage.
