SOULS OF YOUNG FOLK - BLACK LENS MKE
SOULS OF YOUNG FOLK - BLACK LENS MKE | Milwaukee Film Festival 2020
I was presented an opportunity to participate in the 2020 Milwaukee Film Festival programming through BLACK LENS MKE; for the second consecutive year I was honored to moderate their SOULS OF YOUNG FOLK panel discussion. I was joined by some young people who I get a chance to jam with through my involvement with the BLACK AND LATINO MALE ACHIEVEMENT Program; in addition to all of the game that they give me I try and help them navigate the maturation process of being a young man of color growing up in a city identified as the worst place to raise a Black child. We watched the film, ‘GROWING UP MILWAUKEE’ Tyshun Wardlaw’s feature documentary debut follows three young Black people growing up in the heart of our city as they grapple with daily experiences of racism and segregation, while fighting to avoid becoming a statistic. Watch us engage in some meaningful dialogue about their experiences GROWING UP MILWAUKEE. Special thanks to Tyanna for quarterbacking this whole play.
