BOOGIE debut LP 'EVERYTHING'S FOR SALE'
These days, debut albums carry a different kind of weight. In this ‘transition’ era of music where album sales, hell even the concept of a music album is confusing at best; there’s a nostalgic pocket that still exists around an artist releasing their debut studio album.
Welcome BOOGIE, the Compton native who has officially been on the INTERSCOPE roster since 2015 sets the bar rather high for 2019 with his, ‘EVERYTHING’S FOR SALE’ release. Although being inked for a few years, he’s been patient, building himself rather organically with mixtape releases that I’ll admit I didn’t check out despite being familiar with his name.
I overly appreciate when artist take time to live life and allow life experiences to influence their music. Boogie paints vivid pictures and relatable scenes of love, mistrust, and maturing as a father. You can hear strong influences of Kendrick Lamar; blends of Chance the Rapper but his sound is distinctive enough to stand out.
There’s an emerging class of rapper’s rappers. The types of talents that your favorite artists will acknowledge as having the skillset to carry hip-hop to the place it deserves. Boogie’s EVERYTHING’S FOR SALE solidifies his spot in that class.
As if the rapping wasn’t enough, his album rollout is next level. Check the short film released under the same name as the album. Check any of freestyles dropped during his recent press run, you won’t be unimpressed.
